The Best Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

The Best Strawberry Banana Smoothie- this classic smoothie recipe is made with just 6 simple ingredients. Perfectly sweet with a creamy texture, you’ll be craving one all summer long.

One of the first things I learned how to make as a child was a strawberry banana smoothie. Given, it was made with banana and strawberry ice cream so it was more like a strawberry banana milkshake but what else do you expect from a 10-year old?

This version is much healthier but equally delicious. We’ve got antioxidants from berries and honey, potassium and b-vitamins from bananas, and probiotic-rich plain yogurt. Blend that with a splash of vanilla and milk, and you’ve got a nutrient-packed breakfast or snack that tastes just like dessert.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients

  • Strawberries– If you’re like me and you enjoy a thicker smoothie, you’ll want use frozen strawberries, whether you freeze fresh strawberries yourself or buy them already frozen.
  • Bananas- Using frozen bananas is also key for the best texture. I like to wait until the bananas are ripe and spotted (for the best flavor) then peel them, break them in half and freeze.
  • Yogurt– Greek yogurt is ideal for the high protein content but any kind of yogurt will work. Just be sure to use plain and unsweetened to reduce the overall amount of added sugar.
  • Honey– Adding a little bit of honey really takes this smoothie to the next level so I personally don’t recommend skipping it. You could also use agave or pure maple syrup if you prefer.
  • Vanilla Extract– This is probably the least essential ingredient, however, I love what it does for the flavor of the smoothie. That said, if you don’t have any, feel free to make it without.
  • Milk– Because we avoid dairy, soy milk is my go-to for smoothies. It’s rich in protein and iron, plus it’s fortified with calcium and vitamin D. But any kind of milk will work.

The Best Blender to Use

Any kind of blender that is able to break down frozen fruit is perfect for this smoothie. My favorite high powered blender is the Vitamix or (for a more cost effective alternative) the NutriBullet.

Possible Variations

  1. Amp up the protein: Add a scoop of your favorite unflavored protein powder to make this smoothie even more satiating.
  2. Add healthy fats: Blend in hemp seeds or chia seeds for a boost of healthy fats.
  3. Sneak in some green: Baby spinach is a great way to add greens without tasting them. Add up to 1 large handful to make a green smoothie. Kust keep in mind the color will actually be more of a greyish brown. :)
