Refreshing Blueberry Basil Smoothie
Refreshing Blueberry Basil Smoothie- Made with just 5 ingredients, this blueberry basil smoothie is the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day! (plant-based)
I know what you’re thinking. Basil in a smoothie? Sounds weird.
I get it. It sounds strange. But it’s one of those things that surprises you in the best way possible. I promise it’s incredibly refreshing and perfect for summer. Plus you only need 5-ingredients to make it!
Blueberry Basil Smoothie Ingredients
- Frozen Blueberries- If you find yourself with a plethora of fresh blueberries, this would be a wonderful way to use them up! Just make sure they are frozen beforehand. Frozen wild blueberries are also a great option as they are higher in antioxidants than traditional blueberries.
- Frozen Pineapple (or Banana)- So many people have issues digesting bananas so to keep it belly friendly I went with pineapple. That said, if you can tolerate bananas feel free to use equal amounts frozen banana which would likely be about 1 large banana.
- Yogurt- Any kind of yogurt will work here. My favorites are vanilla or plain coconut yogurt. Whatever kind you choose just make sure it isn’t loaded with added sugar.
- Orange Juice- I personally love the pop of citrus that orange juice gives this smoothie but if it’s not your thing simply substitute with your go-to milk instead.
- Fresh Basil- Just 2 leaves off the ol’ basil plant is all you need for some summery wow-factor. I promise you it’s so good!
- Optional Add-Ins- If you want to turn this smoothie into a satiating meal, try adding a scoop of your favorite unflavored protein (you may need to add a little extra orange juice) or a tablespoon of hemp seeds.
