This is one of those recipes that’s so basic I’m kind of embarrassed to share it with you. I just threw a few things together that I had on hand and loved it so much that I make it several times a week now. It’s  such a delicious and refreshing treat on a warm day after a good workout.

Unlike most of my other smoothie recipes, this one calls for protein powder. That’s because I typically try to get my protein from whole food sources but in this case, it makes for a much shorter ingredient list which is super important when you have a toddler. If you know, you know.

INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED

  1. Chocolate Protein Powder-Finding a quality protein powder that actually tastes good is key. We’ve tried quite a few and our favorite is SoTru Chocolate Vegan Protein Shake. It’s loaded with nutrition and micronutrients, blends well and actually tastes pretty good. That’s saying a lot coming from me because I’m very sensitive to alternative sweeteners like stevia. But it pairs well with the chocolate and is even better blended up with frozen cherries.
  2. Frozen Cherries– I tend to go for sweet cherries because I can never find the tart variety in the freezer section. Feel free to experiment with either one or a blend of both. Just keep in mind the tart option may require additional sweetener.
  3. Non-Dairy Milk– Any kind of milk works fine here. Unsweetened almond milk is the lowest in calories if that’s something that’s important to you.
  4. Chia Seeds– Technically you could skip the chia seeds if you want but I like that they add a little extra nutrition while thickening the texture just a bit. Hemp seeds also work well here!

If you have yet to try the chocolate and cherry combo in a smoothie, I hope this inspires you to give it a go! It’s such a crave worthy combo and I know it will continue to be on repeat in my blender for a while.
