I have never been a big fan of mustard. Ketchup? All day, every day. But mustard and I only meet on rare occasions. Specifically when there are other ingredients involved.

This honey mustard sauce is a good example of that. I might not love mustard on its own but when blended with a few more ingredients, it makes for ONE BANGIN’ SAUCE. I whipped this up to go with a crispy tempeh finger recipe (which is coming very soon) and I wanted nothing to do with ketchup after eating them with this sauce. Since then I’ve found myself drizzling it on all kinds of thing. Burgers, salads, wraps. The possibilities are endless.

Dairy-free Honey Mustard Sauce Ingredients

  • Vegan Mayonnaise- To keep this sauce dairy-free you’ll need to use a vegan or dairy-free mayonnaise. I’ve also used plain unsweetened vegan yogurt and had good results, albeit a tad thinner than with mayo.
  • Dijon Mustard- Dijon mustard is best for it’s complex flavor. I don’t recommend other varieties.
  • Honey- Obviously honey is a necessity for honey mustard, but if for some reason you can’t have honey, you can try equal amounts of agave nectar instead.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar- Apple cider vinegar adds even more tang with a subtle sweetness.
  • Lemon Juice- Technically you could get away with omitting this one but I think it’s key to making this sauce extra addicting. Something about the pop of lemon juice just takes it over the top!

How Long Will This Keep?

I have stored this dressing in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. But that time can vary depending on the temperature of your environment and what specific ingredients you use. I recommend using your best judgement on this one. :)

Ingredients

  • cup dairy-free/vegan mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • In a medium-size bowl, whisk all ingredients together until smooth. Transfer to a sealed container and store for up to 1 week.
