Elderflower Fizz Cocktail
Elderflower Fizz Cocktail- Made with just 5 ingredients, this elderflower cocktail is incredibly light and refreshing. Perfect for a warm spring or summer evening!
It’s incredible the power that food has to be able to transport you back to specific moments in your life. Some good, some maybe not so good. I’ve found that beverages have that same effect for me. Like mixing Skittles with Zima as a teenager and somehow thinking that was a good idea. Or drinking a crisp glass of rose while looking out over the Swiss Alps for the first time in awe.
This particular cocktail takes me back to our most recent trip to Maui. Never tasting elderflower before, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but I’m glad I ventured out because it was incredible. Somewhat herbal and floral with a hint of subtle sweetness. Paired with cucumber vodka, fresh lemon juice and sparkling water, it made for a light and refreshing cocktail that was dangerously easy to drink.
What is elderflower cordial?
Also known as elderflower syrup, elderflower cordial is a simple syrup made from water and sugar that is infused with elderflowers. Elderflower is commonly used in British desserts and drinks, imparting a delicate floral flavor. You can also find it used for health purposes as it’s rich in bioflavonoids and has been used for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.
Although it can be hard to find in the US, there are a variety of places online you can purchase it. I’ve found the brand Belvoir Farms to be the most popular and I like that it’s certified organic.
Other than elderflower, all you’ll need is cucumber vodka, sparkling water and some fresh lemon and cucumber. Mix them together in a glass, add ice and serve!
Want to make it non-alcoholic?
Simply omit the vodka and allow the cucumber to sit in the sparkling water a bit longer before serving.
