Neutral Bright and Airy Nursery Reveal
Before we even started renovations on our home (almost two years ago!) I knew I wanted this room to be our future baby’s nursery. Needless to say, it feels surreal to have it completed and ready to welcome our little guy!
I still haven’t finished decorating the rest of our house yet but everything I’ve done so far has been bright, airy and neutral. With that in mind, I wanted his room to be somewhat similar so that it wouldn’t feel out of place.
To make things easy I decided to leave the paint color the same as the rest of our house and forgo any wall paper so that the room could easily transition over time. While I didn’t start out with a specific theme in mind I ultimately tried to work in a few woodland pieces of artwork and stuffed animals along with accents of light green to give it a somewhat woodsy vibe. That way Lucy’s foxy self fits right in. ;)
All of the furniture is from various places but I’ll link the sources below in case you see something you like. The organizer bookshelf is from Target and the baskets are from The Container Store. I filled the baskets with toys, a play mat, receiving blankets and the Solly Wrap which many of you recommended. I still need to practice putting it on but that’s kind of hard to do with a 9-month pregnant belly!
Rather than buy a changing table, we went with the HEMNES dresser from IKEA so that it can transition with him as he grows. Honestly, you can’t beat the quality for less than $200. So long as you anchor it to the wall to prevent tipping if/when they decide to climb on it, it’s a fairly solid piece of furniture.
I was torn whether or not to get a wipeable changing pad or a changing basket but ended up going for the prettier option and buying the basket with a waterproof cotton insert. I figure the basket can be used for decoration later on so hopefully it works out to be a practical decision for diaper changes.
The dresser drawers contain a ton of Cloud Island zip-up sleepers (ranging from newborn up to 6 months), pants, hats, socks, mittens, bibs, burp cloths, swaddles and extra crib sheets. Because I wanted that space for clothes, I also bought a small cart from IKEA to store diapers, wipes, diaper cream, etc. Brandon likes to call it the “poop cart”.
The closet is filled with buntings to keep him warm through winter, a boppy pillow, outfits (mostly from H&M), the pack n’ play, the bassinet to our stroller, diaper bags and more diapers.
I’m still doing research on cloth diapering but wanted to start out with disposables to make the transition a little easier at first. If you have any tips, please feel free to share them with me in the comments below!
Overall I’m thrilled with how it turned out and can’t wait to create precious memories with our baby boy in just a few weeks, eeek!

This is such a beautiful space!! I’m in love with that rug <3 He is going to just adore his new little room ☺️
Thanks Liz! I can’t wait to cuddle him in it! :)
Wow, Sarah, you did an awesome job creating this beautiful space! Thanks for sharing. I love the baby animal frames over the crib and can almost feel that natural light. Your son will surely grow in peace and love. Wishing you and Brandon, your son and, of course, Lucy many wonderful times together. (I seem to remember a second dog but can’t recall his name – didn’t mean to leave him out)
Thank you so much, Janice! That is so sweet of you to say. :)
Our other dog, Charlie, is Miss Independent and was outside sunbathing when we took these photos. Lucy is more attached and always wants to be where we are. It will be interesting to see how she adjusts with the baby, although we’ll definitely still give her lots of attention!
The nursery is so beautiful!! And look at you so organized and prepared for baby boy’s arrival… You’re getting close lady! :) A changing basket – how cute! I opted for a dresser with a changing table that we can later remove, because I agree that it isn’t the most practical to get a dresser with a built-in one that you won’t need in a year or two. I use it every day to get Camryn dressed and to change her diapers in the mornings.
Thank you! I’m a bit of a type A when it comes to being prepared. :)
I had actually bought a dresser with a removable changing table on top but the drawers were such a pain to open I had to return it. I do like that option though!
What a beautiful nursery! I just love how light and homey it feels. Do you mind if I ask what paint you used for the walls?
Thank you! The paint color is Eider White by Sherwin Williams paired with Snowbound on the trim. :)
Gorgeous nursery congratulations, may I ask where the rug is from? Its Gorgeous!!
Thank you! The rug is from Overstock. I have it linked at the bottom of the post under “sources”. :)
You are so wise, the room is soooooooooooooooo beautiful and I wish you happiness & good health.
The nursery is absolutely perfect! AS always you look ready to welcome your new bundle of joy!!
Ahhh love it!! And I love that you’re considering switching to cloth diapers. We started with disposable for our daughter as well and now with my little guy he’s been in cloth since day 1 (because we had the foundation to know what the heck we were doing with big sis), and I absolutely LOVE it. So if you ever want to pick my brain, I’m here! I use Bum Genius and just found them the best out of everything we used!!
Hi. I love this!!! I don’t see the link for the plant stand. Where did you get it from? Thanks!
Hi! I bought the plant stand over 5 years ago on Etsy and unfortunately they closed down their shop. Such a shame because I wanted to buy more too!
